Mike's Conscience

you beat me to it! I was about to email you the link.

You know you really should be studying rather than stealing from the good people at the NY Times.

To bad St. Peter didn’t ask about AIDS

United States Government Support for the Fight Against HIV/AIDS

The Bush Administration has requested a total of $1.3 billion in Fiscal Year 2003 for U.S. international spending to combat HIV/AIDS. This is a 30% increase over FY02 ($1.002 billion) and a 79% increase over FY01 ($726 million).

The President announced a new $500 million International Mother and Child HIV Prevention Initiative that seeks to prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS from mothers to infants and improve health care delivery in Africa and the Caribbean.

From AVERT.ORG

One of the main providers of global funding in the fight against AIDS is the United States. In his State of the Union address in January 2003, President Bush promised the world the President's Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), a commitment to significantly increase US spending on HIV around the world. Planned to run for five years, the plan was intended to direct $15 billion to places where it was most needed. PEPFAR became an umbrella for all the existing work being done by the United States, and for all the HIV-related funding which was already going out through USAID.

Nicks,
Far be it from me to be argumentative but the wonderful AIDS funding that the President has requested is mentioned quite prominently in the piece. Then again that comes as no surprise because I think you will agree the NY Times is nothing if not fair and balanced.

I have to wonder if anybody, guilty of the The White House Criminal Conspiracy as described by Elizabeth de la Vega in the Nov edition of The Nation, would even meet St Peter. Certainly he would have to go through an extensive decontamination process first?? David T.
