Essential Paintings for Theologians
I'm not a painter or theologian, but this is worth seeing.
Australian theologian Benjamin Myers has published two posts on his blog which link to thirty "essential paintings for theologians." They're well worth browsing through. You can see them here and here.

Hi, Mike.
Thank you for recommending this blog post. This, along with "Questions can change the world" (Dropping Knowledge site) have stirred up some pretty serious thoughts and feelings.
I'm stuck on Georges Rouault's “Head of Christ.” My immediate gut reaction was sadness. I need to think about this....

Whats the point of looking at the art? I dont see where this has any bearing on theology? Why do theologians need to see these paintings as most of them were created in the time period of the Roman Catholic church during its heretical days. So what does the paintings offer to us. Nothing I think!

That's too bad, Chris. If you don't get anything out of these paintings I'm not going to argue with you. It's very sad, though.
I'll will, however, point out that there was a time when we (meaning Christians) were all Catholic! You need to get over it.
