Today is a big day around here. No, I'm not talking about the boil water advisory in effect... although what is life without a little excitement? The big news is today our (Red)emption adventure is four weeks old!
The pace has settled down a little, but what is really exciting is the way we're starting to see the "viral" effect kicking in. We're now hearing from folks who came to us from 2 or 3 links down the communication chain! Before long I'm expecting to see a donation from Kevin Bacon! This really works... so please keep spreading the word.
Here are the facts:
Number of donors:
313!
Countries Represented:
- Canada
- United States
- South Africa
- England
- Scotland
- Sweden
- Australia
- Wales
Number of Blogs linking to (Red)emption (that we're aware of):
69!
Here's a donor story for you: Last night I had an email conversation with a kind (Red)emption participant in New York state. She couldn't remember exactly how she ended up here, but it started off with a Google search on Christianity and quantum physics. I feel smarter already!
This morning we're reaching out to some of our international friends. We know you're out there--we see the stats! Let's see if we can lengthen that country list this week.
The blog list keeps growing too, and we are consistently hearing from friends who are emailing their contacts about the campaign. Friends, this is do-able. Together, it is do-able.
When we look at issues like HIV/AIDS and Africa, we tend to individualize them. What can I possibly do? Then, it's a quick trip to despair. I can't do anything. Next stop: inaction. Together, though... it's a different story. Together, we can spread the word. Together we can increase awareness. Together we can act. Together we can give. And, together we can make a difference.
We can do this. We are the people we've been waiting for.

I'm going to pop an e-mail out to my fellow students in SFU's Global Health masters' program to see if anyone else wants to join in the fun.
