Fathers Day is coming to a close here in North Vancouver, and I'm thinking about my Dad, sound asleep no doubt, back in Oakville, Ontario. Even though he's just a phone call away, I miss not having him close by.
My Dad is an inspiration to me. Our entire family has undergone a spiritual transformation of sorts in the past few years, and it has been guided and supported by my parents, with my father leading the charge. He was proud of me when I drove a fancy car and worked on Bay Street, and I think he was prouder still when I told him I was walking away from that life. From immigrating to Canada from Scotland as a very young man, to making a life for his family, to finishing his university degree at age 70, he inspires me.
My Dad has taught me to think, to ask questions, to take in the counsel of others, and to form my own opinions. Occasionally those opinions differ from his own, and he's OK with that too.
I love you Dad. Thanks.
