Ahhhhhh. Just taking a break from working on my latest paper. It's pretty much done - just some proffreading proofreading to do and I still need to come up with a catchy title.
Speaking of school, here's something that might interest you if you're a Regent College grad, a fan, or just someone who likes to stare at construction sites for hours on end (like me.)
The thing that strikes most people the first time they come to Regent is the size of the place. This world-famous school, the place that is or has been home to Eugene Peterson, J.I. Packer, Charles Ringma, Darrell Johnson, James Houston, Gordon Fee and a host of others, is basically 3 classrooms, a chapel and a library. (That's Regent "under the green roof" in the satellite shot. Click for a larger image, or here for the full UBC picture.)
Last year Regent embarked on a campaign to expand. The expansion will predominantly be more library space, but new classrooms are included. There's an interesting twist to the story. Apparently way back when Regent was given this land for the school - how it happened that a Christian school was given land on the campus of the most secular university in the most secular province in this "post-Christian" country is another story - there was a condition attached. The small park on the corner could never be built on.
The solution? Build under the park, of course! Right now the "park" is a big hole, which you can check out on the Construction Web Cam. When it's finished, the park will be back, with some very cool upgrades.
Read all about it here.
OK... back to work.
