A quick additional thought* along the lines of my earlier post Sacrifice For Sin.
Last week this line leapt out at me from a Q & A email from John Spong. It succinctly ties in the whole notion of hell, atonement, and sacrifice for sin with the evolution of faith. It's brilliant, and it's delivered in the good Bishop's usual direct, no-beating-around-the-bush style.
"Original sin died in the writings of Charles Darwin."
And as I've said many times, if we don't allow our image of God to evolve and grow, then we will outgrow our image of God.
What do you think?
* I'm currently in Oakville, Ontario after leaving China on September 30. I'll be spending time here with family until mid-month, before heading to Vancouver to start the next chapter. I'm looking forward to connecting with west coast friends and to seeing what unfolds.
